The Extinguished Fire

FeatureDrama, Dystopic

A toxic cloud released by a fire at a chemical plant enveloped the Tuscan Maremma for days, forever erasing any sexual impulse in its inhabitants.

After the first months of despair, the population struggles to find a new balance, torn between the utopia of restoring the past and fully embracing their new tendency towards sublimation: the region reinvents itself as an international cultural hub, increased work productivity attracts investors, a spike in religious vocations captures the Vatican's attention, and the unprecedented transition to a desexualized society makes it a unique case study attracting scholars from around the world.

We follow this process of mourning and rebirth through the collective narration of six emblematic stories, highlighting the inherent fragility of our identities and relationships, as well as the opportunities in the traumatic changes imposed by reality:

  • A survivor of the cloud whose sudden difference blows up his previous system of relationships.
  • A mother and daughter move here specifically seeking higher relationships not based on sex.
  • The creator of a dating app for local "sexvivors" sees his creation slip out of control.
  • A parish priest dealing with the epidemic of vocations has his own vocation challenged by the reappearance of an ex.
  • A journalist is threatened when he is about to reveal the unusual turn taken by Desex Studies.
  • The electoral challenge between two contenders is complicated by their intact sexual appetites, hidden from the public.
